“I’ve heard it all. I know what they’re going to say before they say it. ‘What about kids who are at a party and somebody gives them weed candy?’ OK, well, if you create a symbol like Colorado did … it gives them an opportunity to educate the public,” said Anglin.

“It’s very easy to have a government commercial that says, ‘Here’s what you’re looking for, mom and dad, when you go through your teenager’s backpack.’ Or, ‘Are you at a party? Did somebody hand you something? Well, if it has this (symbol) on it, then that’s drugs.’ ”

Cannabis Experts on Medical Marijuana in Arkansas

2018-03-09T16:13:46+00:00

Arkansas’s medical marijuana program is starting to take shape, nearly six months after voters approved the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment. Arkansas is now one of 29 states where medical cannabis is legal.

There are many unanswered questions, and those involved in getting the system set up have likened it to creating a “mini Food and Drug Administration” from scratch.

On Tuesday, the Clinton School of Public Service hosted a forum on medical marijuana legalization. Two of the panelists, Erik Williams and Dan Anglin, joined Capitol View’s Jessi Turnure to explain what the state should expect moving forward.

“This is about freedom,” says Anglin. “It’s about the right of adult consumers to make the choice of what type of product they want to consume, whether it’s beer, wine or marijuana. It should be up to the person as an adult. They should have that freedom, and not go to jail or lose their job.”

Colorado cannabis safety regs limit edible shapes, enlarge potency labels

2018-03-09T16:34:45+00:00

The former head of Edipure left the company known for its candy-like edibles to start edibles business AmeriCanna because he saw an opportunity to make proprietary shapes for the industry. AmeriCanna launched in early 2016 boasting gummies shaped like a pot leaf.

The leaf aligned with the ongoing public policy debates about edibles safety, Anglin said.

“I’ve seen these regulations come and people weren’t ready for them for whatever reason,” Anglin said. “We’ve made public policy, public safety and compliance as important as the quality of our product.”

The entire process takes seconds, but it represents the culmination of a long regulatory journey for Colorado’s edible marijuana industry – one that AmeriCanna owner Dan Anglin is urging Canada to learn from.

“I’ve heard it all. I know what they’re going to say before they say it. ’What about kids who are at a party and somebody gives them weed candy?’ OK, well, if you create a symbol like Colorado did…it gives them an opportunity to educate the public,” said Anglin.
